Important update: Changes to the self-assessment process

Self-assessment is the first step in the Quality Assurance Program. It is the foundation on which you plan your professional development throughout the year. Self-assessment allows you to reflect on your practice in relation to the practice standards and core competencies and identify areas for improvement.

The self-assessment provides a series of questions related to the practice standards and core competencies that allow you to assess your knowledge, skills and judgment. Areas identified for improvement are automatically transferred to your individual learning plan (ILP). You are then required to identify a minimum of three learning goals for the year ahead. This forms the basis of step two of the QA Program: continuing professional development.

The goal of self-assessment and maintaining a professional portfolio is to promote self-assessment, professional accountability and practice reflection to continuously improve the quality of professional performance.

The annual 90-day self-assessment period begins on December 1 and ends March 1 of the next calendar year. If you are registered in the General Class before December 1 , you are required to participate. Kinesiologists registered after December 1 will complete their self-assessment the following year.

Getting started

The self-assessment is accessed through the Self-Assessment Portal. Your username is your five digit College registration number. If your registration number is only two digits, you can log in using only two digits. If this is your first time completing the self-assessment, your password is your date of birth in the MMDDYYYY format. If you have forgotten your password, click the Forgot your password? link located below the sign in area and instructions to change your password will be emailed to you.

There is a short video tutorial available after logging in that explains how to use the Portal.

The Portal contains nine sections which may be completed in any order, and allows you to save your work and return to it at a later time.

Important Note: The College has received feedback from members indicating that certain features of the Portal are unavailable to them when completing the self-assessment from a work computer or on Internet Explorer. You are encouraged to complete your self-assessment on a home computer using the latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

Continuing professional development (CPD)

The College does not require that you collect a certain number of CPD hours or credits per year, and CPD activity does not need to be pre-approved by the College. Rather, learning is self-directed. You are encouraged to select learning activities based on your own needs and goals, and to reflect on how learning impacts your individual practice. Learn more about continuing professional development.

Professional portfolio and individual learning plan (ILP)

The Portal allows you to upload evidence of CPD activity. Your ILP can be accessed and updated throughout the year by changing your QA year within the Portal. You are required to maintain a portfolio that contains your two most recently completed self-assessments and ILPs, as well as records or evidence of CPD activity. For examples of acceptable evidence of participation in CPD activity, refer to the Portfolio Contents and Format Policy.

Submission of data

Self-assessments and IPLs are considered by the Quality Assurance Committee in aggregate form only. Self-assessments and ILPs are not individually reviewed. Data will be used by the Committee to inform the development of programs and tools to support members’ practice and professional development.
