By-law 6 amendments regarding the election of officers

Background

The government of the Province of Ontario has proposed a series of reforms and modernization initiatives that will impact the governance of health professional regulatory colleges in Ontario. The College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (“the College”) will be required to implement and abide by these reforms once they have been incorporated into legislation, including the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA, 1991).

The College has undertaken a review of its by-laws, including By-law 6, which pertains to the election of officers of the College (“officers”). Officers are elected from among members of Council and include the President and Vice-President of Council, and “[…]such other officers as Council may determine from time to time.” The intent of the College is to ensure that by-laws pertaining to the nomination and election of officers are clear, relevant and consistent with current and anticipated legislation and best practices.
