Background
One of the goals set out in the College’s 2019-2022 Strategic Plan was to: “promote competent, safe and ethical kinesiology practice that is patient/client-centred.” This goal may be achieved by defining “patient/client-centred care” and how it may apply in the context of kinesiology practice, which includes providing guidance about the expectations in the Essential Competencies of Practice for Kinesiologists in Ontario. After careful consideration, the College determined creating a new Practice Guideline on Patient/Client-Centred Care would help achieve this goal.
Draft Practice Guideline – Patient/Client-Centred Care
Following research and consultation with a working group of kinesiologists, a draft Practice Guideline was developed with the intent to:
- Connect the principles of patient/client-centred care to several of the College’s Practice Standards and Guidelines;
- Clarify the accountabilities of a registered kinesiologist in various employment settings and roles by referencing applicable legislation; and
- Align with and clarify the expectations of Essential Competency 3.2 and its associated Performance Indicators.

On March 25, 2024, Council approved the draft guideline for circulation in a 60-day public consultation.
Provide your feedback
Upon Council’s approval, the College has developed a Public Consultation Survey, which will be open for 60 days, from March 27 to May 25, 2024.
Your feedback is important as it helps the College develop clear, helpful and applicable resources for kinesiologists, which ultimately protects the public. Kinesiologists, the College’s system partners, other healthcare professionals and the public are invited to provide feedback from March 27 to May 25, 2024 through the following survey:
