To help identify learning opportunities and facilitate communication between kinesiologists and CKO, we launched a series of Practice Standard and Guideline surveys in March 2024. The seventh survey involved questions about the Practice Standard – Infection Control. This survey was published in the September issue of @CKO, the College’s official e-newsletter.
We are pleased to provide a report on the survey results. Some of the highlights:
- Kinesiologists are aware that they can meet the Practice Standard by ensuring that infection control measures in their practice include requirements for:
- Hand washing;
- Use of protective barriers, where appropriate;
- Cleaning and/or sterilization of equipment and facilities; and
- Managing wastes
- There are many high-quality resources for kinesiologists to learn more about IPAC. Some examples and references are included in the Practice Standard itself.
- The external practice environment is defined in the Practice Standard as the community in which the member’s practice exists, and may, depending on specific infection risk(s), extend to municipal, provincial, national or international borders. Kinesiologists should apply their knowledge, skill and judgement to consider the degree of infection risk currently present in the external practice environment, as such risks may inform their assessment of the risk of infection and transmission to patients/clients, staff, colleagues and other health professionals.
We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to respond and provide feedback, which will inform ongoing review of the Practice Standards and Guidelines. We look forward to your continued engagement with this survey series!
