As regulated healthcare professionals in Ontario, kinesiologists must follow the Practice Standards set by CKO to ensure their practice is within scope and their patients/clients receive safe, high-quality care. As social media has become a popular tool for kinesiologists to share helpful information about their practice with patients/clients and the general public, we’d like to remind kinesiologists of CKO’s Practice Standard – Advertising.
To help kinesiologists better understand the standard and apply it to their daily practice, CKO also provides detailed guidance (the Practice Guideline – Advertising) and advice on social media use by kinesiologists. In general, kinesiologists may wish to consider the following before posting on social media:
- Separate personal/private content from professional/public-facing content, if possible;
- Consider the nature of the content and provide enough context to avoid potential misinterpretation; and
- Ensure the ability to address any concerns raised regarding posted content (e.g., removing or amending content).
